Seasonal Road Restrictions for Hunters in Tillamook State Forest

The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) will resume road restrictions this fall in the western part of the Tillamook State Forest to improve deer and elk escapement during hunting season.

Some roads will be closed to motorized use during general archery and rifle hunting seasons in September, October and November. Selected roads in the Trask, Wilson and Nehalem River areas will be gated and signed.  Controlled access during those three months is designed to reduce hunting pressure in these areas.

Three new areas, Sibley Arch, Hoskins Creek and Bales Creek, will be closed to motorized vehicles.

Hunters and other recreational users are welcome to access the gated areas by foot, mountain bike, horse or other non-motorized means.

ODF is partnering with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) and the Tillamook Chapter of the Oregon Hunters Association (OHA) in this program.

Motorized access by ODF staff or contractors working in those areas may occur on occasion.  Maps of the road management areas are available at the Tillamook ODF office located at 5005 Third Street, Tillamook and at the Tillamook District’s Web site at  http://egov.oregon.gov/ODF/FIELD/TILLAMOOK/about Tillamook.shtml Once at this link go to the “Recreation” section for the information.

If you have questions about the road management program, contact Bob Teran at the Tillamook ODF office (503-815-7020) or Herman Biederbeck at the Tillamook ODFW office (503-842-2741).

Visitors should expect log truck traffic on Foley Ridge Road and East Foley Peak on weekdays. Use CB channel 13.

Forest Grove District OHV Trails

Browns Camp OHV Area:

Tillamook District OHV Trails

Jordan Creek OHV Area:

# 26 Ample and Alluring is closed to ATV and 4-wheel drive use until further notice.

# 37 Stick In The Nose is closed indefinitely due to timber sale activity.

#40 Duane's Trail remains closed indefinitely due to flood damage.
Riders are advised to not venture down this trail as it is a dead end and very difficult to ride back up.  In addition this further damages the trail as inexperienced riders dig ruts as they struggle to climb back out.

Diamond Mill OHV Area:

(# 72) Odins Ridge and Jones Creek Road (# 83) are temporarily closed due to road construction associated with the Mary’s Butte Timber Sale. The Operator is conducting right of way falling for spur roads and road re-construction needed for access to the sale.

Mikes Trail  (# 92) is still open to motorcycles.  The lower quad width section of Mikes is closed where the ROW falling has blocked it however the remainder of Mikes Trail is open for motorcycle only traffic.  To avoid confusion and loss of expensive OHV trail filter materials from road construction and ground yarding, boulders and eco-blocks have been painted SAVE or marked with an S. As the road work moves west on Jones Creek Road, Powerline 2 (# 133) will be closed as well. The closed trails may be reopened after the road work is completed.  Timber falling and harvest may not occur until later this year or even later depending on market conditions.

#121 Thin Wolf Trail, the short 0.2 mile section is temporarily closed while a slide is cleared on Wolf Point Road.  This portion of the trail will be re-opened after the slide is cleared and the trail is returned to quad width.

Trask OHV Area:

Eagle Hill Trail is closed to 4WDs. The trail will remain closed until a bridge suitable for 4WD  can be installed at the bottom stream crossing.

Jeep Trail is closed August 11 - August 30, 2010 due to road bridge construction on Megan Creek. The construction project will block the lower end of the trail.  A detour map can be found at   http://oregon.gov/ODF/FIELD/TILLAMOOK/aboutTillamook.shtml
