2010 Governor's State Employees' Food Drive

This year’s statewide food drive theme was “Now more than ever”  This year has seen a continuation of Oregon’s less than stellar economic situation – and the news just continues to worsen.  Despite that, or perhaps because of it, Oregon Department of Forestry employees again more than did their part to think of and help others – now more than ever.

As an agency, the Oregon Department of Forestry:
  • Once again, won our agency class (Team 4 - agencies with 500 – 1000 permanent employees) for the 11th consecutive year; and
  • Collected a total of 200,596 pounds of food – an average of 364 pounds of food per employee!

Unit/Program Recognition
Best in Agency/Area/Salem Program Winners:
  • Once again, the Molalla, North Cascade District, was our Best in Agency Award winter, and the Best in the Northwest Oregon Area, with an amazing 4,114 pounds per employee! Congratulations to all of the Molalla Unit employees.
  • For the Eastern Oregon Area, the Klamath Unit, Klamath-Lake District, has won again with an impressive 2,595 pounds per employee! Congratulations to all of the Klamath Unit employees.
  • For the Southern Oregon Area, the Grants Pass Unit, Southwest Oregon District, with 809 pounds per employee!  Congratulations to all of the Grants Pass Unit employees.
  • And, for Salem Headquarters, the Protection Program with 423 pounds per employee! Congratulations to all of the employees in this program.

Outstanding Unit Award

We have created a perpetual award on which the agency’s Outstanding Unit is recorded each year.  Recording each year’s most generous unit or program and having it rotate each year to the top unit helps us maintain our support for the hungry and creates an official history of outstanding units over time since 1998.  This year’s Outstanding Unit, as they have been for 11 of the past 13 years, is the Molalla Unit, North Cascade District.  Our congratulations!

Local Food Drive Coordinators

The agency's local food drive coordinators served us all this year in offices throughout the agency – coercing us, inspiring us, amazing us with their imaginative ideas, and infusing us all with the energy and commitment that this work entails.  These are all individuals who voluntarily assumed this task while still holding down what were already full-time jobs that certainly didn’t need anything else added to them.  Our sincere appreciation to them all.

Food Drive Coordinator/Team 4 Trophy

As earlier mentioned, the Oregon Department of Forestry again - for the tenth consecutive year -  collected the highest amount of pounds of food per employee for its agency's size.  The Governor presents a perpetual trophy each year to the agency winners, and Cara Walker accepted this trophy on our behalf once again at a statewide ceremony earlier this year.  The trophy will continue to remain for the next year on display in the public reception area of the Public Services Building on the Salem Campus.

This year’s food drive was the responsibility of the Administrative Services Division, with Cara Walker serving as overall agency coordinator.  Thanks to that program, and Cara, for all of your work.

And thanks to all Oregon Department of Forestry employees for your generous support – now more than ever.
